Beyond Hunger: A Future Reclaimed

"Development is not just found in statistics, but in the increasing weight and blossoming confidence of a child."
Three-year-old little Durga’s story is a witness to the transformation that occurs when a family embraces the 'right decision' and 'firm determination.' Born into a large family of six siblings, Durga’s childhood began amidst deep deprivation. Her father, Jitendra Ram, is a migrant laborer with an uncertain income, and her mother was herself battling anemia. In such circumstances, both Durga's nutrition and her future were insecure.
Initially, due to social hesitation and the burden of household responsibilities, Durga’s mother was not ready to send her to the center. However, the continuous dialogue and trust-building by DVAS volunteers turned this hesitation into hope. They realized that early care is the true foundation of Durga’s life.
As soon as Durga started attending the center regularly, the results were nothing short of a miracle. Between November 2021 and December 2022, Durga gained 5 kilograms in weight and grew 5 centimeters in height. This was not just physical growth; she began to understand numbers and basic mathematics.
Today, that same little Durga says with full confidence that she will grow up to be a "Police Officer." Her father, Jitendra Ram, says with pride, “Today, Durga is not only healthy but understands things very quickly. Seeing her become happy and self-reliant makes us proud of our decision.”
Durga’s journey is an inspiration for the entire community. It proves that if daughters receive timely nutrition and education, they can leave deprivation behind and lead society with self-respect and self-reliance.
